- Tampa, Fl. (April 22, 2019) – Port Tampa Bay President/CEO Paul Anderson joined forces with Florida Aquarium President Roger Germann to honor Earth Day. The two rode bicycles to work and planted pomelo, banana and mango trees in front of the Port headquarters in Tampa. Port Tampa Bay and Aquarium staff celebrated the tree-planting outside of the port.
“For us, everyday should be Earth Day, said Anderson. “We strive to enact principles and policies of environmental sustainability to the highest standard.”
Together, they talked about partnership efforts to minimize the Port and Aquarium’s environmental footprints including the restoration of Cockroach Bay and McKay Bay, elimination of single use plastics and innovative systems like the “GOAT”, which collects litter and debris from entering port waterways.
They also announced plans to launch a new joint education program to teach children the importance of environmental stewardship and marine ecology in the future.
