Terry Fluke brings over thirty-four years of maritime operations in various positions in Tampa Bay. Fluke graduated from the University of South Florida in 1983 with a degree in Finance. He began his career in the Port of Tampa in 1985 as an Assistant Terminal Manager at a marine petroleum bulk plant. He was promoted to Terminal Manager in 1991 and served as manager through 2009. Since 2009 he has been employed as Operations Manager for Nova responsible for inbound and outbound vessel operations, cargo loading and unloading and vessel logistical support.

“Terry Fluke was chosen from a deep pool of qualified national candidates,” voiced Captain Peter Glynn, Tampa Bay Pilots Association Manager. Throughout his 34 year career, Mr. Fluke has directly participated in many port related professional associations. He has served in key roles with the Tampa Spill Prevention Cooperative, Port of Tampa Propeller Club and in 1997 he was selected to the board of the Tampa Bay Harbor Safety & Security Committee (TBHSSC) and co-chaired the initial Vessel Movement Subcommittee.  Fluke was elected Chairman of the Tampa Bay Harbor Safety & Security Committee in 2006 and currently remains in that position. 

The Tampa Bay Pilots Association, founded in 1886, is the association of professional harbor pilots that provide comprehensive piloting services for the entire Tampa Bay area.  Tampa Bay is Florida’s largest piloting domain consisting of nine federal pilotage routes and over 90 miles of pilotage waters.  Tampa Bay Pilots handle over 4500 ships per year and 50 million tons of cargo. Safety is the primary objective in the regulations of piloting by the state and Tampa Bay Pilots are entrusted to preserve and protect the ports, population and environment to the fullest extent possible.
